hi, just wanted to say the Gmail and Google Calendar tools are fantastic additions to Dust agents : any chance the Gmail tool will be updated to manage not only drafts, but run through one's whole mailbox and manage new emails/email threads/answer emails ?
Hello! Where do you see these tools 👀 ?
Thank you for the feedback! It’s something the team is considering but looking for more user feedback :)
Samy Aumar in the « spaces » tab under « tools »
Ah gotcha, thanks! Quick question: do the connexions to gmail and google calendar manage “individual credentials” ? as if not, it means that everyone would have access to the data of the user who setup the tool
Hey Remi, are we agree that today, Gmail tool/MCP is not able to retrieve emails ? Only drafts ... ?
Samy Aumar they do ! users have to connect to their own Gmail account when they first run their agent
Asking because it’s important to create draft from existing email thread instead from scratch (context context context 😉) Ok we can workaround something using the Chrome Extension & attach text on the email thread (assuming that we have uncollapse all emails in the thread) but at the end it will still create a draft not attached in the thread 🤔
I agree !
Interesting! I think intended the use case is slightly different ex: you have a Discovery meeting agent that takes meeting transcript as input and does all the followup including drafting the follow up email directly into your inbox. It will be tricky to use the MCP tool to answer directly in the thread - for this use case, it's better to use the chrome extension indeed 😊
Remi Interesting point! But let me challenge you with an even more powerful use case that would require full Gmail access 😄 : Imagine an agent that has access to my meetings AND my full inbox. Here’s the flow: 📅 Context: I have a discovery call scheduled for today 🎙️ After the meeting: My transcript gets automatically pulled from Modjo or other (linked to that specific meeting) 📧 The challenge: In my inbox, I have TONS of emails, including the original thread where we organized this meeting What I want the MCP Gmail to do:
Smart thread detection: Cross-reference the meeting title/participants with my email history to find the RIGHT email thread that led to this meeting
Contextual draft creation: Push the follow-up draft directly INTO that existing thread (not create an isolated new draft)
Then we can do a full automation using the meeting data + transcript + email context every time we get the transcript from our 3rd provider 😉 (webhook)
Why this beats the Chrome extension approach:
No manual copy/pasting of transcripts
No hunting through hundreds of emails to find the right thread
Perfect context preservation (the draft appears exactly where it should)
Still keeps control since we’re using drafts 😉
This would be TRUE email intelligence - but it requires full Gmail access to search/analyze existing threads, not just draft manipulation... Other use case will be the same as we can do with slack after 1 month of holidays and we want to catch up everything... cross that with our gmail inbox too 😉 Happy to discuss 😛
Thanks for sharing, this is indeed exciting! For it to work you'd need a very robust MCP. For eg: "Smart thread detection" I don't even know if it's something MCPs can do 😅 But I'll share your ideas with the team!
