Enhancing Reusable Tools in DUST for Efficiency and Accuracy

·
·

Hey Everyone. Hey Dust Team. Wanted to share a recurring idea - "Reusable Tools" could be really powerful if done right. Here's why: I keep hitting this pattern: needing the exact same tools (same data sources, same descriptions) across multiple assistants. Rebuilding them each time isn't just tedious - I actually worry about missing key documents or description details when recreating from memory. Having a way to save and recall these tool configurations would prevent that duplication risk. (Quick aside: The current tools feature - especially data source descriptions - has been one of DUST's most useful updates for me. The control it gives over retrieval accuracy makes a noticeable difference when set up properly.) Edit: Could we make tool names more visible? They're currently tucked behind the three-dot menu, but I rely on names for quick identification. Surface-level access would help navigation. I do have some other suggestions/feedbacks but I'll be giving more of my thoughts later on. Ps: it seems o3 mini was released by open AI today.

Hey there:) A possible workaround waiting for a "Reusable tools" feature could be for you to duplicate the assistant you want and then adjust the instructions / naming but keeping the Tools part exactly the same!

Thank you Clara. Yes that's the way to go most of the time, but still a bit more painful if you have to remove some tools and add some from other assistants to the cloned one, and if you have another assistant that needs access to some tools that you already made for another assistant, but overall yes that's probably the best workaround for now.
